Located on Newport Avenue in Oak Bay, this 10,000 sq ft Vancouver Island residence was designed as a calm and refined family home, balancing modern minimalism with traditional warmth. Andrea Rodman Interiors led the full-service interior design, working closely with the homeowners and build team to create a cohesive and highly considered result.
The home’s T-shaped layout creates two open courtyards—one at the front and one at the rear—while thoughtfully arranged wings provide both connection and privacy. A key design challenge was to bring together two distinct aesthetic directions, blending a more traditional sensibility with a contemporary, minimal approach.
Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian and Japanese design principles, the interiors are grounded in simplicity, natural materials, and a soft tonal palette. These elements are complemented by subtle French influences, including rattan details and applied mouldings, creating a layered and balanced composition that feels both timeless and personal.
Large windows flood the home with natural light, strengthening the connection between interior and exterior spaces and reinforcing a sense of calm throughout. Furniture was carefully curated to form a lasting collection, while an extensive art program—including works by David T. Alexander, Bobbie Burgers, and Brooke Holm—was developed in collaboration with European art consultants.
As a Vancouver-based interior design studio working across Vancouver and Vancouver Island, Andrea Rodman Interiors specializes in creating timeless, residential spaces that feel both refined and deeply livable. This Oak Bay project reflects the studio’s approach to designing homes that are calm, highly considered, and tailored to the people who live in them.
